explore a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing, including in
collaboration with peers.
eBook or
Traditional Book ?– Select a traditional children’s book and then download
a copy of it on your eReader. Read
both versions to the class. Let
them compare and contrast the different styles. Which one do they prefer? Why?
IPads for All
– Place an iPad on the copy machine and make a color copy of the keyboard. Glue this to the inside of a pocket
folder. Write letters or words on
index cards and place them in the pocket.
As children select cards and “type” letters and words they will become
familiar with the keyboard.
Individual
Laptops – This idea is similar to the above activity. Glue a copy of a keyboard to the bottom
of a file folder. Tape a clear
sheet protector on top. Insert high
frequency or vocabulary words so children can practice typing.
Dragon –
Download the free “dragon” app and demonstrate it to your class. Talk slowly and clearly, tap, and the
text will appear.
