BOXES AND BRACELETS AND BOOKS

What an amazing summer I have had - from SC to TX, to NV, to IL, to AL, to FL, to MO, to LA, to MS, to KY, to AR! As usual, I think you taught me more than I taught you.

Little Red Box
My friend Pamela Pounds always has the best ideas to share with me. Her class loves the song "I Wish I Had A Little Red Box" so look at the creative ways she adapts it to teach skills.
Letters - We sing, “I wish I had a little red box to put Michael in. I’d take him out and go /M/ /M/ /M/ and put him back again.”
Colors – “I wish I had a little blue box to put blue in. I'd take it out and go /b/ /l/ /u/ /e/ and put it back again.”
Numbers - “I wish I had a little red box to put 5 in. I'd take it out and go 1,2,3,4,5, and put it back again.”

Her kids also like a big SMOOCH on their papers. She draws big lips and then they get to color them in.

Rainbow Loom Learning
Diane Hasson came up with a brilliant idea for the Rainbow Loom bracelets.
I attached sight words or unknown letters to the bracelets so the students could wear and learn. Our Math Specialist asked me to make the bracelets with multiplication facts. I also made necklaces and attached transition words for writing. This year I hope to have a few 5th graders make them when they can’t go outside for recess.

You could use these for letters, shapes, numbers…anything!

Fiona Von Finnigan
What a delightful name for a feisty third grader who uses fairy tales to teach some “good old grammar rules.” Lindsay Parker Fejes shared her charming book that she wrote and illustrated with us at Summer Camp in Dallas. I can’t wait to read it to Kalina and K.J. when we visit next weekend. Get the scoop at www.FionaVonFinnigan.com

Tooty Ta South of the Border
Vickie Spencer took my “Ole Ole Ole” CD and shared it with children on her mission trip this summer. Once again it proves that music really is the universal language. If anyone else is going on a mission trip to Central or South America please let me know and I’d be thrilled to give you Spanish CD.
