Give children ovals and ask them to decorate it like Humpty Dumpty. Next, have them cut the ovals into 5-7 pieces. Ask them to "put Humpty Dumpty back together again" by gluing the pieces on another sheet of paper. Display on a bulletin board with this rhyme:
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall.
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king’s horses and all the king’s men
Couldn’t put Humpty together again.
But the kindergarteners got out some glue
And put him together as good as new.
Egg Drop
This is messy, but it's something your students will never forget. You will need a raw egg, a shower curtain liner, and wooden blocks. Place the shower curtain on the floor. Have children estimate how many blocks they can use to build a wall for Humpty before he will fall and break. One at a time let children put down a block, place the egg on it, and then gently push it over. Continue building the wall taller until the egg cracks when it falls.
